FCC Commissioner, Michael Copps, led an investigation of self-proclaimed “Silicon Valley’s First Phone Company” – Ribbit Corporation March 11, 2008.
So what do you do when legal adviser, Bruce Gottlieb, to FCC commissioner Michael Copps leaves a voice mail for your company saying Mr. Copps wants to learn “…more about what your company is doing.” You say “Yes” of course!
Turns out that Mr. Copps was on a tour of companies “trying to bring Silicon Valley ingenuity to providing phone service.” He visited Ribbit (me, Ted Griggs), Kleiner Perkins (John Doerr), Apple (Steve Jobs), Google (Larry Page, Eric Schmidt, and Larry Lessig), and Ooma.
Great visit! So far, so good. If you’re going to be “investigated” by the FCC, it’s good to have this kind of company!
